At A Glance: What To Expect at Skill Builders 2021

The Cantor/Song leader serves a multi-faceted role in the liturgy: proclaimer of Word, leader of Prayer and minister of Hospitality. In our time together we will break open each area of responsibility, honing the specific skills required to serve the worshiping assembly while recognizing our baptismal call to ministry. This area of concentration is designed with the amateur cantor in mind but will be of benefit to singers of all levels.

During the 3 days, we will:

  • Discover the role of the cantor

  • Discuss and explore the vocal mechanism and its relationship to the sound of the singer

  • Vowel shape and placement in relation to diction and proclamation of the Word

  • Managing nerves and their impact on the voice

  • Musical preparation and awareness/understanding of the liturgical texts
