The Extra Beat

NPM has two optional excursions available for event registrants only. Each of these events take place before NPM On the Road begins, making it a great opportunity to sight see and enjoy the city with NPM colleagues and friends. 

Spots for both Extra Beats are very limited, so make sure to sign up early! 

NOTE: Registrants will be responsible for transportation to and from each Extra Beat location. The additional fee to register for an Extra Beat covers facilities, donations, and other miscellaneous expenses.

Join us for a tour of the local San Antonio missions, rich in heritage and history.

Friday, June 27 – Technology and Tacos
Join us as we visit the University of the Incarnate Word’s on-site sound studio! Learn about the basics of sound and audio production, which will be led by Dr. Andrew Bergmann, Assistant Professor of Production, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship at University of the Incarnate Word. The morning will end with food from the local team’s favorite taco restaurant!

Keynote: Many Gifts, Un Solo Espíritu: The Beauty of Our Ministerio Compartido

Peter Kolar is a bilingual composer of Salvadoran-Polish heritage who has contributed much to the liturgical music landscape of the U.S. Named NPM’s 2022 Pastoral Musician of the Year, his numerous works reflect a fluency in classical, folkloric and pop idioms. Peter holds the position of Editor for Spanish and Bilingual Resources at GIA Publications, Inc., and was the founding editor of the bilingual missalette “Celebremos/Let Us Celebrate.” His compositions include the Mass settings “Misa Luna” and “Mass of the Sun of Justice,” both winners of ACP’s Distinguished Mass Setting Award, and a solo piano CD titled “Variations.” A respected clinician, Peter presents frequently in the area of multicultural worship and was a consultant to the USCCB on the chants of the U.S. Misal Romano, tercera edición. In 2024, he received the SWLC’s Mary Frances Reza Award for outstanding musical contribution to the Hispanic Church. Peter holds a Masters degree in music composition from Northwestern University and resides in El Paso, TX, where he directs the El Paso Diocesan Choir.

Concert: Being Light: University of the Incarnate Word Cardinal Singers

The University of the Incarnate Word’s Cardinal Singers will provide an uplifting concert around the theme of light. The Cardinal Singers are directed by William Gokelman and offer regular performances within the university and in the San Antonio community.
