NPM is excited to offer a 4-part web series on music notation software. These four sessions will provide some basic information about each software, while digging more deeply into functionalities that pastoral musicians would use most in their ministries.

Each webinar will take place from 8-9:30 pm ET/5-6:30 pm PT; note that the first webinar will take place on Tuesday, and the remaining weeks will take place on Mondays.

Registration fees:

NPM members: free, included as a membership benefit

Night 1: Copyright Considerations & Sibelius
Tuesday, April 23, 8-9:30 pm ET/5-6:30 pm PT

Night 1 will include a conversation with ONE LICENSE’s Katie Deaver, addressing copyright considerations when using music notation software to re-engrave hymns in order to better fit a worship aid. What can we do? What can’t we do? How do we report our usage?

The second part of our night will explore Sibelius, led by NPM member and composer Luke Rosen. He will lead viewers through a basic tour of the software, and show us how to use Sibelius for worship aid engraving and modern chant notation.

Night 2: Finale
Monday, April 29, 8-9:30 pm ET/5-6:30 pm PT

Night 2 will explore Finale and its capabilities for pastoral musicians. Larry Van Mersbergen will share the ins and outs of Finale, and share how to best use the software for worship aid engraving. Kevin Keil will then share how to best use Finale for modern chant notation.

Night 3: Dorico
Monday, May 6, 8-9:30 pm ET/5-6:30 pm PT

Night 3 will focus on Dorico, a music software recently created that has taken the music notation industry by storm. Composer and NPM member Tony Ward will walk us through how to maximize the software for use as a pastoral musician, including engraving for worship aids and modern chant notation.

Night 4: MuseScore & More
Monday, May 13, 8-9:30 pm ET/5-6:30 pm PT

Our final night in the series, titled “MuseScore and More”, will spend the majority of the time focusing on MuseScore, an open source software with more than just music notation capabilities. It is also a peer-to-peer database where other musicians can share their arrangements made from the software. NPM member Matt Peroutka will share all we can expect from the software in pastoral ministry.

Lastly, Amanda Bruce will share the “more” part of the evening, briefly highlighting the other music notation software options available that we didn’t have time to cover.
