Mary Lynn Pleczkowski has earned both BSMEd. and M.Ed., from Duquesne University. A popular clinician for NPM Cantor programs and certifications across the country, Mary Lynn has served for eight years as Chair (and now Chair Emeritus) of the NPM Cantor Section. In addition, she participates in the operations of the association through her assistance with the NPM Fundraising and Development Committee, Publications Committee and as Editor of The Liturgical Singer, NPM’s publication for national member cantors, choir directors and choir members.

Mary Lynn is a pastoral musician in Pittsburgh PA.

The clinician will lead participants in prayerful and music foundation development, skills enhancement, exercises, tips on technique and master class sessions. Participants can be cantors, may want to be cantors, choir members wanting to improve their skills or otherwise participants of music ministry in the Catholic church.

Cantor participants may prepare a psalm that they’d like to sing during the master class and should bring music for themselves and for an accompanist. There are only limited slots available to sing during the master class although all will be learning from you (if you’re chosen). Not all will be invited to be examples for others, but all will learn something about how to be a better cantor, a better singer and a better minister.

Potluck lunch will be provided; you may be invited to bring something for yourself and 2 other people.

Visit our handy NPM Worcester store and place your order online or mail a check with the names of the participants to our treasurer before October 1, 2018 to:

The NPM Local One Day Cantor Intensive is a one-day, five-hour, high quality formation program that a diocese, chapter, parish, or school can sponsor in conjunction with NPM.

It's reliable! The clinician for each NPM Local One Day Cantor Intensive is a designated cantor trainer who has been approved by NPM.

It's affordable! The registration cost is just $20* per participant.
* Depending on distance traveled - the clinician may need to be reimbursed for mileage and lodging.  These costs will vary per clinician and location.
* Minimum 20 applicants

It's timesaving! The one-day program (9:00 am to 2:00 pm) includes sessions on the liturgical role of the cantor, the psalms, animating the assembly, vocal issues for cantors, and coaching. Participants may add on the exam and adjudication for the Basic Cantor Certificate by completing a separate application and paying the certificate fee.

How to Hold an NPM Local Cantor Intensive

For your workshop, you will need a local host coordinator and a clinician. You may also want to have an accompanist. The following guidelines presume that a coordinator is someone separate from those doing the actual presentation, and, in the case of the Basic Cantor Certificate, the adjudication. The local coordinator or another person will be responsible for marketing, registration, and providing items onsite such as name tags, refreshments, lunch, and similar practical matters.

This is just one way to approach the process (but it is the recommended approach). After a date, site, clinician(s), and accompanist have been chosen, the local coordinator should take care of the following details.

Contact ML Pleczkowski (Chair Emeritus, NPM Cantor Interest Section) at Plecz@aol.com.

Make arrangements to use a Catholic church, school, retreat center, or other facility that has a room large enough for people to sit, observe, and sing and that has the instruments needed to accompany a cantor.

Check that your budget assures that there will be enough income to offset expenses. The fee for each registrant is $20*.
* Depending on distance traveled - the clinician may need to be reimbursed for mileage and lodging.  These costs will vary per clinician and location.

From this registration fee:
Fee Breakdown $20 Registration fee per participant
$10 per participant goes to the clinician
$10 per participant goes to the local host parish/diocese

Inform ML Pleczkowski of the date and location of your workshop.

Please note that there is an approved curriculum for this Intensive. NPM will provide an outline.

Clinicians must be NPM Designated Cantor Trainers.

See the Guidelines for NPM Local Cantor Intensive Coordinators and Guidelines for NPM Local Cantor Intensive Clinicians for additional information and suggestions.
