Cantor Certification Programs


NPM 2015 National Convention
July 6-10, 2015 - Grand Rapids, Michigan
Cantor Certificate On-Site Adjudications
  • All of the requirements for the Basic Cantor Certificate (BCC) may be completed on-site.
  • Most of the requirements for the Intermediate Cantor Certificate (ICC) and Cantor Colleague Certificate (CCC) may be completed on-site. See ICC and CCC application forms for details.
  • Applications must be postmarked on or before June 15, 2015
  • A limited number of applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until limit is reached
  • Applicants or their parish/institution must be current NPM members
  • Applicants must pre-register for the entire convention
  • Applicants must attend Breakout B-14 on Tuesday afternoon. Breakouts C-13, D-14, E-14, and F-14 are recommended
  • Written exams will take place on Monday, July 6, 12:00 noon – 1:00 pm
  • Singing adjudications will take place on Wednesday, July 8, 12:15–3:00 pm and Thursday, July 9, 12:00 noon–3:00 pm.

Applicants for NPM Cantor certificates must take them in order beginning with the BCC. Only those with a music degree may begin with the ICC or CCC.

There are three cantor certificate programs available to cantors:

1. Basic Cantor Certificate (BCC)

The Basic Cantor Certificate is a means to recognize the achievement of fundamental skills expected of cantors. This certificate marks the first stage in the NPM certificate program for cantors.
There is a $25.00 non-refundable fee for this program.

2. NPM Intermediate Cantor Certificate (ICC)

The Intermediate Cantor Certificate is a means to recognize the achievement of more developed skills expected of psalmists and cantors. A certificate presumes an understanding of a spirituality of ministry.  This certificate marks the second stage in the NPM certificate program for cantors.
There is a $50.00 non-refundable fee for this program.

3. NPM Cantor Colleague Certificate (CCC)

Cantor Colleague Certificate is a means to recognize the achievement of advanced skills expected of psalmists and cantors. This certificate marks the third stage in the NPM certificate program for cantors.
There is a $75.00 non-refundable fee for this program.

2015 Examination Dates
  • June 15, 2015
    • Postmark: May 15, 2015

Candidates will receive the exam questions by e-mail on the day of the exam and will be required to return their responses by email. The exam begins 3:00 pm Eastern Time and the candidate has until 6:00 pm Eastern Time to complete the exam.
